This past week I was able to go to a hispanic youth conference called Congreso in Forth Worth, Texas at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with all the recipients of the Hispanic Christian Leadership Scholarship here from Wayland.
This group included four students, including myself, and Donnie Brown. This event is the biggest youth event in the hispanic Christian culture here in Texas and we went to go and promote higher education at Wayland. We were recruiters for the three days and sharing how Wayland has impacted our lives in a tremendous way. We were also promoting the Hispanic Christian Leadership Scholarship here at Wayland which is a scholarship for one incoming freshman which covers full tuition, room and board for four years!
The event was amazing with worship everyday as well as a spoken message afterwards. We also were able to go out and serve the community of Forth Worth by different youth groups serving in different ways. My group was able to pick up trash at a public park. Overall it was a great time!
Regarding sleep, I did not receive enough sleep the night before we left so as predicted, I fell asleep when we got on the road. But just to show the immense sleep pressure I had, we had not even entered Hale Center and I was already asleep! I slept for most of the trip and was able to function well throughout the day. Both nights I averaged about 7 hours of sleep which is not bad but not great also. I can say that I caught up on some sleep in those days but continuing to do so is the hard part, which I am still trying to accomplish. It can feel like a never ending cycle of not getting enough sleep, but I will continue to try my best!
