Looking at the concept of sleep and writing down what we have learned, as well as further pondering about certain topics is a fascinating way we can improve our comprehension. By doing this we can also apply the lessons we are learning to our own lives as huge benefits.
A topic that has been discussed in our class that I would like to explore further has to do with big catastrophic disasters or events in the world that upon further examination can be concluded that sleep deprivation was a factor that caused the disaster to occur. One example is that of the Exxon Valdez oil spill on March 24, 1989. With the discovery that the lack of enough sleep indeed played a role in this huge disaster causes me to think further of other worldwide disasters. Did sleep have an impact on those events as well? How about if we scale down to just our local communities. When we hear of car accidents in our area what is the probability that sleep deprivation had a role to play? I would like to look further into this topic.
Sleep also relates to more than just this class, but our everyday lives. I enjoy having a quiet time each day where I can spend time with God one-on-one. And I can testify that the days that I am sleep deprived, I hardly can focus on what I am reading in the Bible during that time or even begin to dose off when praying. Sleep definitely affects that time that I have with God which I want to be fully aware and awake for in order to have intimacy with Him. This is definitely another reason that I should begin to try and fix my sleep schedule.

I'll see if I can find more examples of some notable catastrophes that may have been caused or impacted by lack of sleep. It's an interesting topic! Good start to the semester with these two blogs.
ReplyDeleteThis class as well as the blogs have shown me how much more sleep I need and how important it really is for our daily life. In order to maximize my time doing school work and even spending time with God, I really need to get it together as far as my sleep schedule goes.
