As I embark on this journey of highly improving my sleep, which is much needed, I am excited to share my progress and have a written record of which I can look back upon!
Currently, my sleep schedule is very off as I stay up during the night doing homework or preparing for the day to come. I go to bed very late in the night and wake up fairly early which, anyone can tell, is a combination that does not go together effectively. This causes me to be very tired when I have to sit still for a great length of time. This sleep debt that I have acquired also makes me fall asleep immediately when I lay my head down on my pillow. I do not recall in the past days, pondering right before falling asleep because of how exhausted I am that I immediately start sleeping.
With that, I do not remember any of the dreams that I have had over the past few days. Neither do I remember any, if at all, nightmares that I have had which I am very happy that I do not recall those!
Even with this sleep debt, I am not napping throughout the day. The reason that I am not taking naps is because I do not have the time to do so, but in all reality if I did have the time during the day to do so I may be seeing myself taking multiple naps a day! The time that I usually begin to feel tired and sleepy is around midnight. From then on I keep myself awake by drinking water and, if it gets to it, doing some jumping jacks or another physical activity to keep me awake and doing homework.
In regards to my sleep schedule, I believe it is very inadequate and something indeed needs to change. I have had this change in my mind for a while and I am glad that I am not being ignorant about the huge issue that it really is. But I do in fact need to begin to take action to change my sleep schedule around.
**A step that I can take right now in the right direction, is to begin homework earlier in the day so as to have an advantage on it and hopefully finish it earlier than I have been.**

Christian, good thoughts so far about the importance of being aware of your sleep patterns and then taking time to acknowledge what might need to change. It's easier said than done for busy college students, but you're on the right track in starting to consider minor lifestyle changes like doing homework earlier. Dr. S.
ReplyDeleteHow ironic is it that being in a sleep class made us realize how bad our sleeping habits were? Yet we’re probably not going to fix them even if we do!
