Zzzleep Scheduling

As the amount of sleep I get every night is still an issue, I think of the factors that have contributed to this barrier in my life. I surely do not get enough and change continues to take place.

Throughout the week I had a ton of homework to do and this required me to stay up past midnight every night. But a big reason that I stayed up doing homework was to try and get ahead of my work because I had a trip to attend during the weekend to a conference and I knew I was not going to have anytime to turn in any assignments during that time. With that being said, going on this trip also did not help me recuperate sleep rather it may have increased my sleep debt because I would go to bed late due to playing board games and spending time with friends.

I do not remember any dreams that I had or nightmares(thankfully). But what I do remember is that one night during the trip I closed my eyes while in bed and it felt as if I had slept 30 min but in all reality I had slept 6 hours. My body was a little exhausted and I wonder what caused my brain to feel that way? Due to the lack of rest, I also was falling asleep during the conference which embarrassed me and is opposite of what you want during a conference.

**A step that I continue to take in the right direction, is through a social media fast that I am partaking in right now with some of my friends. Hopefully through this I am able to get rid of unnecessary delays from going to bed.**

  1. A social media fast may be useful for me, too. Without realizing it, we can scroll and click for much longer than we intended to. In addition to travel (like to a conference) getting us off our usual clock and schedule, it also adds some stress and added responsibilities. I'm not surprised you fell right asleep and didn't realize how long it had been. Sleep specialists say that, if you fall asleep less than 5 minutes after lying down, you are likely heavily sleep deprived.

  2. I feel you on the falling asleep during the conference Christian. Though I didn’t attend one myself, I noticed that I wouldn’t be as dialed in during classes and in some instances I also would fall asleep during classes. I felt horrible for the teacher because she must’ve felt like I was boring her or something. I might consider this social media fast in order to improve my amount of sleep.
