Vacation days are meant to be rewarding from a company to its employee for their hard work, especially companies that give vacation days according to the amount of years an employee has been at the company. The longer an employee has been at a certain company, the more vacation days they receive as a thank you from the company for all the days they have been at the company. But why are so many people not taking their vacation days? Or indeed leaving the office as a vacation but continuing to work from where they're at?
One answer that has been comprised is the term "vacation shaming" which is when a person is getting ready to leave for vacation and coworkers begin to make remarks such as "must be nice" or " I have too much to do to leave right now". This usually ties into workers not taking their vacation days in order to quiet their fellow companions.
Another reasoning behind the avoidance of vacation days, is that workers think that they will be replaced with someone who doesn't need a few days of vacation and thus they go on without taking any days off. If they leave the office for a few days they are expecting to be fired when they come back.
This subject has been very interesting as we have covered it in class and would be exciting to look more into. Questions such as if this is just a generational problem would be interesting to answer!
